(Will not share location sorry) I cannot find any information about this hut online only a specific blog from another local.....I did knock on the private property owners house across the road but nobody was home as I wanted to see if they knew about this hut and it's history...maybe one day I'll find out and let you all know when I do until then she's just another good hut that's been watched and looked after, as you can tell the tin of paint that was still on the top of the mantle piece, thanks for watching leave me a like and subscribe I'm almost at 1k subs, you won't get my videos on monetization as ads don't play on my channel but I will be making a patron soon so if you like to donate some petrol or a hot chocolate I will start that soon so thank you..... #adventure #backcountry #backpacking #bushwalking #explore #hiking #hikingadventures #huts #hikingtracks #tas

What a place to build a house! In the early 1900s, Ruby Hunt’s house was built high on the hill overlooking Darlington Bay on top of the ruins of the old Magistrate’s dwelling. As the story goes, Ruby Hunt was a bit of a character and operated a pedal-powered wireless, which at the time, was the only communication link with mainland Tassie. It is also rumoured that she would hang a lantern in h...

Gingerbread Track to Mount Rufus Summit
little caravan still there at start?
Not that I didn't see no mate......
What a hut it would have been! Built into its surrounds, Sheltered as. Did it have a fireplace? Assume it would have, couldn't see any charring or chimney remains. Thanks for sharing
Yeah she would of been good, don't see any evidence of a fireplace but that's not to say there wasn't one, I didn't see any charcoal but I'll have a better look when I'm up there again, great views too would of been a cosy hut to stay in no wind at all was a perfect spot 😂
Great stuff mate, what an incredible find! That was a serious trek through the scrub, well bloody done 🙏👏👏
Wasn't that hard just didn't want wet feet and going through scaparia all day long so wasn't too bad.... Thanks again mate hope your well I'll give you a call when I'm back from my trip this wknd chat soon mate....be safe too 👍🍻
@@TasHikingAdventures Yeah, wet feet suck! Enjoy your travels. Things are going great, it is a fantastic place. Beautiful scenery all around, not as good as Tassie though 😉 Take it easy.
How to go here? I am.in hobart currently
🤣🤣🤣 use google maps, it's not hard to find 👍
Well you have bogans there as well they don’t care it’s not theirs treat it like sh- t leave their rubbish that’s why it’s all locked up so it won’t get totally destroyed.
I appreciate the review mate. Reviews on this tent are a little hard to find.
Thanks mate....there a good tent just a bit squishy
Sensational video mate! 😊Thanks for showing me around, much appreciated 🙏
No worries mate anytime for an adventure in my eyes....
Shoutout to the lady who lent me here frypan because I forgot to bring mine all the way from Hobart lol 😂🤣🤣
You can always rely on a friendly Tasmanian 😃
@@adventurewithbernie I'm only friendly to the people I know lol 😆😆😆 as she said to me oh your local that's ok your not from the mainland lol 😂🤣🤣🤣
@@TasHikingAdventures 🤦😢😁
I stayed there in a Grade 7 activities camp in 1974. We were tasked with painting the exterior with creosote (shhh). peanut butter on toast , as much as you wanted for dinner and breakfast. Fun times!
Super cool video mate! Spectacular place to visit, that image at 4:19 was a pearler 🤩
Thanks for that glad you enjoyed it...was just a quick video now for our lunch video then I have to get back out in the bush now it's getting cold, nice fires and beer and snow can't wait 😎👍
@@TasHikingAdventures I'm not expecting snow here, but it will get cold for a few months. Take it easy 🍻
Nice work. Persistence paid off.
Bit of a mission but we got there I just climbed straight up the hill I didn't see the track to my right from the hut think I needed glasses that day lol 😂😂🤣 cheers
I must get to Maria next time on my travels. Nice video Aaron 👌
Cheers mate My next video is us at limebay haha 😆 I haven't been out since that wknd been so busy and my shoulder has been playing up again so I've been resting at home and not working or hiking as much ATM
@@TasHikingAdventures That will be interesting to see. Hope your recovery is a speedy one mate.
@@adventurewithbernie been almost 8 months bro ain't happening fast at all lol 😂😂😂
Not a bad view there, great stuff mate.
Wouldn't like to be there on a big gust of wind but lol
@@TasHikingAdventures 😆 You don't get them in Tassie do you?
All the comforts of home ah. 40 50 Years or so our bush bivies/huts were simler. Full of hand cut Tawa and other burnable woods for the next visitors visit. But over the years now I've noticed a decline with a few that use it all but never replace the wood for no body. Why is it that some people think like that today here in NZ. Are they the new breed plan lazy no hopers or what??
This is private property I think mate, it's well hidden and not very well known for so alot of trash people cant find it and go near it so the supply and inside is looked after very well yes, I hope.to come to NZ one day and hike it's like here but NZ is on steroids compared to Tassie haha 😆
Thanks for sharing 👍 The new logo is great aswel!
Thankyou 👍 I did post as a community feed but decided to take down thanks for the feedback ☺️
@@TasHikingAdventures I have been following the preservation society for a while now and love what you all do. I would like to get involved. When is the next GM? Scott B
@@SB.y82 there is a general meeting tomorrow, I only go to annuals sorry, just walk in and sign up pay for your yearly membership and your set mate ! What area are you from
@TasHikingAdventures I'm in Launceston, I just saw the searched the meeting dates on the website and saw it was tomorrow.. My partner has covid, so I best not attend! I will be at the next one tho. The mount Barrow shelter needs some attention desperately, Although how to save a stone structure with a 200mm concrete slab on top of it is a big ask!
@@SB.y82 please don't go if you have covid you should both be isolating.....yeah cool might see you there at the end of the year, we just finished a hut off in central plateau, I will bring it up at the next meeting about the shelter...if it has no historical value they prob won't bother,
Was probably a bit of a stunner in its day. Bit chilly with those gaps in the floorboards though 👌
Yeah she would be cold but that big fireplace would of kept it nice n warm for sure
@@TasHikingAdventures Yeah, I would have it cranked right up 😆
@@adventurewithbernie plenty of wood around too old Howell would of kept warm for sure🤣🤣🤣

Went to kerrisons hut a couple of weeks ago, what a lovely hut 😊 Great work done by all involved 👏😊
Thankyou I only did a days work up there well day and a half but yes it's came up well was very run down....the team did a bloody good job....that concrete slab was flown in by PWS via chopper so it's about time they actually helped for once....I'm happy to be involved but I didn't do shit the team I was with that wknd done a great job I just couldn't stay longer...thanks for watching 🥾🍻👍
@@TasHikingAdventures about time pws did something to help . Huts looking great love the fireplace 👌
Good work! I did this with a mate in the summer of 1980 just before we started uni. We took fishing rods as we'd heard rumours of trout. I don't recall much of the walk in , but remember the nice hut. We walked partway around the lake without hooking anything and headed back as the sun went behind the range. I recall a long hard slog back up that hill. And the slow drive back to Hobart in my mate's mum's VW Beetle! Back in the day...
Awesome story love hearing those types of story's esp around a campfire with a beer cheers mate.....she was a slog down in the valley let alone going back up lol 😂

Why do you roll it back out and in again after closing the valve?
So it just pushes out whatever is left in it so then I'm sure there is none in there everybody does it twice it's just common sense mate, Goodluck
hey you reckon i could have the coordinates for kara? Ive been there before but im looking to go with mates soon and i dont wanna have to find the hut from the lenah valley track
If you have been there before then you should know what way is the easiest way, if your starting at the Lenah valley track then you've got no idea where it is because I park my car and walk 5mins to it, just do some research mate it's easy to find, Goodluck
Update 2024 best hiking mat I've used way better than the other tensor wide mat, more comfy and feels better too 👍 more r value rating it's just a beast mat and easy to roll up and yeah it's just great
Hey bro just wondering what size light bed sheet did you go with to fit the nemo tensor wide?
Hey Barry, I ended up getting rid of the Nemo tensor wide and got the upgrade to alpine it's alot better in my opinion but the size I got which I'd pretty much the same is Light Sheet 10° 25x77 / Black/Green/Gold Hope this helps thanks 👍
